Big mouth

I was sitting in the dentist office yesterday with my oldest son. The other two boys had been last week, but the oldest boy couldn't go at that time because he was at basketball camp. Don't you love it when you have to go to the dentist twice in one week? Didn't think so.

Thankfully, the appointment was quick and painless for both of us. But, while I was waiting I picked up a local Christian newspaper thingy and skimmed an article about our mouths and the power of our mouth and the words we speak.

We all know this right?? Nothing new here right??

But, in the article were 3 bullet points that I thought were worth repeating so here you go.....

**A mature faith shapes our speech--guards our mouths and refines our conversation

**A mature faith is grounded in the word of God (whoa)

**A mature mind is transformed by the teachings of Christ and becomes the filter through which our speech must pass (I need a better filter)

Personally....as someone who likes to talk and whose mouth can be her worst enemy, I need this reminder. I might need to print this off and have it before me in a public place. And as women who tend to talk way more than our counterpart.....lets make sure our mouths are being used in the most powerful effective way possible.

As parents, I think it is of utmost importance to make sure that you are continually teaching the word of God to your children so that His teachings become a filter for them as they talk, and share, and engage in conversation.

I could write a huge post at that last paragraph, but I'm not ready. Maybe one day.

Have a great day!!

Hugs and blessings~

12:34 O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.

I get stabbed in the heart with this scripture! My mouth is my main source of trouble. I am very serious.
Thank you for this good and timely word friend! :)

Girl -- I'm right there with you. And convicted by this post. I need to pray more, talk less.

What God keeps reminding me is that "out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks". So I would have less trouble speaking truth if it were in my heart already. Now when I go off on a tangent with gossip or unkind words, I am broken over the real problem - what's in my heart. ...and I have to be broken often. But there is a positive to this, too! When I know His love I can love others! Realizing that I don't trust His love for me is the reason I have trouble loving others was a starting point.

Anyway, thanks for the great reminders! The struggle is so real.

Oh boy did I need this. :)

Here lately, I am praying "God place a guard on my mouth" A LOT. Seems like the gossip around the pool this summer is on speed! It's crazy!

thanks for encouraging and challenging me this morning.

Hugs
steph.

The struggle is real for all ages...oh that we know the right thing to do and desire to do it and yet....our flesh takes over. Truly we need to watch our hearts...thanks for this reminder...painful but necessary for the body of Christ.

Ouch. Lately, we've had a bunch of frustrating stuff going on that has had me really complaining a lot, and I'm not typically a whiner. So unattractive and a terrible witness.

Thanks for these words...love you Fran!

What a great post. This reminds me of a Bible study Beth Moore recommended... Conversation Peace by Mary Kassian (I think). Have you heard of this or done it? Melissa recommended it to me one time as something her mom loved, and I've seen Beth refer to it since then as well. I am still working my way through it, but it's good.

Thanks for these good thoughts!

Blessings, Carolyn

To guard the mouth...such a good reminder!

I clearly have no kids, but working with my girls I have to be extra careful. They hear my every word, and watch my every action! It's so hard!

Have a great weekend!

I blog so you can get a glimpse into my life as wife, mom of 3 boys, and someone who simply wants to bless others along the way. Have fun and be sweet :)
