I love my family but.....

We have been homeless when it comes to a church since late last summer. No need to hash that all out again, but the fact is....we are homeless and I don't like it.

We spent the fall visiting a church and then we decided around Christmas that we should visit somewhere else for a few months. Must keep it fair and all. Or keeping it fair and all might turn out to mean we still don't have a church again this summer.

Well, today's sermon was FABULOUS!!!! I mean the kind I'll remember for a long while. One tiny piece was this.....

In Fran's words this is how I heard it and applied it to my life....

"I love my family sooooooo very much. I mean don't we all? I'd do anything for my husband or kids. We hear parents say it all the time and once you become one you'll do anything for those kids. Yes, I'd walk through fire and take death for them if I had to. I sacrifice left and right for those kids. I'll go anywhere for those kids. I'll do whatever I can for those kids. My entire family is my life.........

However, they are NOT MY GOD."

Ouch. You can read these for yourself.

Again....I love my job....but, it's not my god.

I love my house....but, it's not my god.

I love my friends....but, they aren't my god.

I love to workout....but, it's not my god.

I love my church.....but, it's not my god.

I'm going to make sure that I don't put anyone or any thing above or before the one true God in my life.

Let's take a moment to evaluate where our heart is. I know I need to.

Mark 12: 30Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.'f]"> 31The second is this: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'g]"> There is no commandment greater than these."

Blessings~

Great reminder! That is one thing that has been driven into my soul during the past year of being "homeless" as you stated here in your post. God is not contained in the 4 walls of a church. My relationship with a church or church body does not equal relationship with Him. Also, working with many different churches has made me more dependent on God, and it's helped me to see a much bigger picture of "the church". However, I think my picture is still too small. He's not through with me yet!

That's a good word, friend.

And I bet God was working this whole thing out to end up exactly where you were Sunday. Because seriously, think about it. New circumstances at the new church caused you to re-examine a place that you never could see yourself attending - and what a blessing (in MANY more ways than TC) you have received. The Lord works in mysterious - and even Baptist ;) ways, huh?

And on a totally different note, your family pic could totally be an ad for Under Armour. :) What cuties!

Also, my word verification is "muftin" which is how Camille says Muffin. :)

I was also visiting yesterday and heard the same sermon, Fran. Great reminder to keep the focus where it should be. Like the earlier comment, I have learned time and time again that my "Christianity" is not about what church I'm in or not in, but that I keep God as the center of my life.

Sounds like a great sermon. Our God is a jealous God and here on this earth we have the opportunity to put everything before him and it is so easy to do...(stepping on my own toes here). Great word Fran and glad you brought it to us.

I know you will find one soon.

hugs,

janel

SO similar to our sermon yesterday. Our pastor is finishing up a marriage series...we were reminded yesterday that GOD has to be first, THEN spouse....
Man, it was a good sermon. :)

Hugs to you sweet friend! See you soon?

I am praying for you and your fam to find a home church that is the one that God has picked special for you. We also were church homeless for well over a year. Finally after so much searching, and at times just sitting down and giving up, God brought us to a ministry that is not conventional church as I was looking for, more stretching for me...and i have just fallen in love with these people and their beautiful hearts.. thinking of a verse and can't remember where it is.."I do a new thing, i place streams in the desert.." something to that affect (getting old LOL)

I just know HE has a plan for you and committing to praying you all into your new faith family. Love ya girlie!

It's so amazing when we love HIM with everything we are He creates more room for us to love others in an agape way.

Today was a perfect time for me to remember this truth even through your ears!

So true!!! Our preacher preached a sermon similar to that a couple of weeks ago. Really makes you think about that doesn't it.

I blog so you can get a glimpse into my life as wife, mom of 3 boys, and someone who simply wants to bless others along the way. Have fun and be sweet :)
