Don't put all your eggs in one basket....

Have you ever heard that expression before???

Don't put all your eggs in one basket???

What does that mean exactly????

Don't put everything you have into one thing....

Don't put all your hopes and dreams into that person....

Don't put all your energy into one thing....

Well, let me tell you quickly how I got to re-visit this concept today. We had bible study this morning at my house. We only have about 5 weeks left after finishing "Wising Up", so we decided to watch the DVD's from the "Bible Study On Demand" by Lifeway. It is 5 different Bible teachers with 5 different independent lessons. Personally, I wanted to see other teachers I wanted to study for the Fall.

So.....this morning, we watched a session from Priscilla Shirer's study called "He Speaks to Me."
Well...this woman rocks!!! AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME little 25 minute teaching on
single minded worship.

She asked us these questions about our worship experience on Sunday mornings, Sunday nights, Wednesday nights....

What or Who is holding you back from true single minded worship with God??? Go ahead...go back and read that one more time.

For me...I'm too busy thinking other things, worried about the people around me, thinking about the people around me, distracted by the people around me, afraid of being looked at, keeping a wall up between me and God so I can't experience Him fully, and hanging onto sin, pride, fear or doubt as I "attempt" to worship Him.

PATHETIC!! I can honestly say....I do not give Him all of me during worship. Whats up with that??? I don't know...bet I have a hunch that I have some issues with myself that need to be dealt with before I ever step into the church doors.....

So...as we talked about worship experiences.....I said these words....

"If you are counting on getting everything you need in one worship service....you will be disappointed."

So...that is my point. You cannot be completely filled if you are putting all your eggs in one basket.....whether its a worship service....Bible study group.....Sunday school class....

You will be completely filled by having many ways of worshiping Jesus. It will not happen in one hour on one Sunday morning. You will be disappointed if you think your Pastor, the musicians, the teacher, the study will do it all for you. They can't do that for you. They are human. There is no one perfect worship experience.

Get out there and find you some worship, some Jesus, some growth, and some learning in as many ways as you can!!!!

You are gonna need a lot of baskets girls. No need to have just one. It won't work for ya.
At least that's how I feel about it right this second.

Blessings and have a great day with Jesus....

I totally agree with you, Fran. I can tell a difference when I rely on only one form of worship. I have to have my daily time, or I should more honestly say almost daily time with Him. I try very hard to do it, some days are just full of lots of mommy stuff!
I seem to worship more fully listening to the radio in the mornings by myself. I love our Christian radio station. I DO listen to that every single day. We eat breakfast to it!

I'm not sure I've thought of it like that but I also agree with you. My favorite time to worship is in the car with my favorite praise and worship cd. I can sing as loud as I want and as reverent as I need. It's safer for those around me if I sing in the car...I can't carry a tune in a bucket...hahahaha.
I just love being alone with Him- no phone, tv, (clearing throat)computer.

Oh do I know what you mean and so many things have pointed me straight to Christ as I have felt let down if you know what I mean. I have tried to find my worth in so many things and it is truly to be found in Christ alone!

You are right on target. We need to worship Him before we ever get to the church building. I love singing to praise music in the car by myself and I love listening to it as i walk....had some good times with Him there. It is hard to not get distracted with others around, but we just need to try and get prayed up before we go and then really listen to the songs and let them speak to us. Same with the message from the Pastor. Bless you for your thoughts and your honesty. Your "sister' from down the road, in Germantown,.

We're doing the He Speaks to Me bible study. Priscilla IS really good.
It all comes back to Jesus, doesn't it? When my life is crashing down around me, what is the first step I need to take to get it back together? To go down and look up. So He keeps telling me this morning!
Love you, Siesta!

Fran,
Right on girl! I do think that true worship usually happens at the weirdest times and a lot of times it is alone. In my car, at home, outside wherever! We can't rely on others for our spiritual health/ growth. It has to happen between me and God alone. Thanks for your insight, you are a blessing!

Grace and Peace,
Dana

That rings so true to my heart. I am like you I often get so distracted during a swervice that I do not truly get lost in Him. I love this and I will me meditating on it over the next few days especially with me heading to Jacksonville tomorrow. I really want to worship Him without the fear of what people are thinking etc.
LOVE ya sweet friend!

This is so true. Beth hit on this in Stepping Up. I am trying to really focus on what I am singing to the Lord. Sometimes it's easy to get caught up in the beat of the song, or it's our fav song etc... but that isn't worship. I , also, get distracted. I ask God to guard my mind and thoughts during worship at church and at home.
Also, I have done Priscilla's study He Speaks to Me and it was go good!! She can teach the Word. This study will truly help with your quiet times with God!! I highly recommend it!!
Great post my friend~
Love Ya,
Patty

I think we do need to put our "eggs" all in one basket...needing to put them all in Christ. From that flows everything else. As far as your post though, what great thoughts to remembering that we can't put our eggs all in one basket in regards to depending on one worship leader or pastor..as their are so many forms of worship to the Lord. Great post!

Girl! I know I have worn everyone out singing the praises of Priscilla, but she IS an awesome teacher. Both her studies are full of "meat"! I love her!

What a great post! I think this is a valid point about worship. I have come a long way in this area the last few years. I actually sing on the worship team at our church and the church itself has become "freer" in their worship so that has allowed me to be more brave. I'm looking forward to more progress in this area!

Thanks for yet another awesome post!
