I'm so disappointed....

Hey all!

It's Sunday night as I write this and I'm watching Opening Night of America's pasttime....baseball.....on ESPN with my family. We are baseball freaks I guess you could say.

We get all excited and love all that they do before the big game...the pregame....the introduction of the lineups....the national anthem....the fireworks.....cheering for one of our many favorite teams, the Braves, and then watching the ceremonial 1st pitch by the President of the United States, George W. Bush.

And.....as he walked out onto the field with all his important people surrounding him....

He was booed. He was booed by the people of the United States. And, at that point, my heart broke in two.

I don't care how you feel about him as President of our country, or the choices he's made, or the decisions he makes, or his leadership, or anything about this man that you may not care for....

He is our leader at this present time and we must not or should not boo him in front of all the world and in front of our children. What kind of message does that send our kids as they sit and watch that take place??

I just heard a sermon today that was titled "why can't we all get along?"

We are called to love.

We are not called to be disrespectful, ugly, judgemental, critical, or arrogant. Sometimes that's not so easy, but sometimes we need to get it together and simply love.....even when it's hard.

So, as I tried to delicately explain to my 7 yr old and my 10 yr old why people were booing the President of our country.....my heart hurt.

"why can't we just all get along?"

If we are the body of Christ.....let's act like it....especially when the larger world is watching.

ok....I'm off my soap box now. I'm feeling better now. :)

I pray that we all teach our children to respect the authority God has ordained for this season in each one of our lives. Authority is there for a reason. I lived so much of my life with no concept of authority and I guess you could say I'm extra sensitive to the need for it.

Blessings and love~
Fran

I just couldn't agree with you more! There have definitely been leaders that I have not agreed with at all yet we can disagree, but still have respect for them in their leadership role. Hearing that "boo" would have hurt me too.

I agree with you 100%...that just bothers me too...I don't understand why our country can't respect our Leaders...no matter whether we agree with them or not...."Booing" is totally disrespectful....

Amen, sister!! Things like that are uncalled for and it shows what state the hearts of so many people are! And especially during something like a baseball game. It's not like it's a poilicate debate or something. So very sad!
On another note, I LOVE the braves. In fact, my roommate and I watched some of it before Oprah's The Big Give.

I am actually commenting on your post from March 5th. I don't know if you go back and look through old posts so thought I'd comment here. You say you are praying for marriages and families. Satan is out to destroy as many of us as He can. Without a HUGE dose of the Lord my marriage will fail but I am still praying for "beauty from ashes". Just wanted to thank you for your words. Trusting God! Sheryl

I almost cried when I read this. I feel so bad for him. I hate to think about how that must have felt. How many of those people could do his job? Not too many, I'm sure.

I hope he receives and extra portion of blessing tonight!

How terrible. I am so glad that I didn't see that. I don't think I could have taken it. Blessings on you President Bush. Oh how his family must be hurting.

Thank you, Fran for this post which says it all. America-some of you need to get over yourselves, and stand up and show a little respect. It just makes me so sad we are reduced to this. Blessings, Annette

I am in total agreement with you my sweet friend. I was watching too, it really hurt me for our President, he deserves our respect. I also love my braves, so did my momma. She is now cheering them on from heaven. Go braves!!

We are the body and should know better! Who knows how many people in the stands know Christ though! They probably can't even begin to understand the fact that you don't boo! They probably feel entitled! Boy I hate that word! We sure do have to teach our kids hard lessons theses days! There are so many bad examples out there! Feeling your pain!

Well said. I've often said the same thing... but probably not as well as you just put it. I think this extends even further down than our president though. I'm thinking about how many folks are ugly and mean spirited when speaking about local officials, law enforcement personnel... and even our preachers. It goes back to what our grandparent's taught us... if you don't have something nice to say, just hush. It's not that I never disagree with people in positions of authority. They're just fallible folks like the rest of us. But my unfavorable opinions are reserved for sharing with my family and close friends. It's simply bad manners to boo someone publicly. It shows bad sportsmanship, immaturity and lack of self-control. Glad you shared, but it is a sad reflection of our country. On the positive side, you have a wonderful opportunity to teach your children the better way. If we'll all step up to the plate in those instances, there will always be hope.

If you study about honor in the Word you will find that there is a reward that comes with honoring. In America we tend to only honor (or respect) those who earn it. Biblically, that couldn't be further from the truth. We are to honor those to whom honor is due. The Bible is so clear of the fact the GOD sets up leaders/authority. As believers, we need to honor those in authority over us. (As you said, even if we disagree with them.) The coolest thing is, our obedience to this earns us honors reward.
I totally agree with you Fran. I also have this deep patriotic thing in me...so to boo the president is just not something I could not do. In past administrations I have had to bite my tongue in order not to dishonor with my words. But this president, my heart goes out to in a huge way.

I personally like George Bush (I think many people will realize how much they like him when we have Obama-nation as Pres). I did not, however, prefer Bill Clinton. Even though I was not a Clinton fan, I would never boo him. We need to have respect for people in authority even though we disagree with their views. That is part of what is wrong with America today - kids arent taught to respect authority so they rebel in every way they can. It is a sad statement about our country when the President is bood at a baseball game!

I read about this and it royally irked me! I mean there have been past presidents that I have been less than fond of, but I still respect the position that the man holds! He's the president of the United States!

Goodness gracious.

I listened to a sermon yesterday as well: Love your neighbor, and love your enemy too.

Now I'm all fired up!!

I totally agree!!! He is the President of our country and I think booing him was wrong. In Beth's study Stepping Up she just talked about standing shoulder to shoulder and not letting the enemy outwit us and to stop making fun of people, talking about them, lying about them. I am glad you talked about this today!
Love,
Patty

And we wonder why our children don't show respect for authority!!!!

This makes me so sad..even more reason to pray for the man that leads our country!

you remember that feeling when we were kids and some kids were doing something REALLY wrong and you could just FEEL the impending doom??? You just KNEW they were going to get in trouble?

Hearing this story made me just sad to tears, then I just got this feeling like...

OOOOOOOH! WE ARE SO GOING TO FALL INTO THE OCEAN... THIS WHOLE UNITED STATES!!!!!

we have GOT to start being more respectful and honorable or we are going to get in so much trouble!!!!

Not that I view God as a giant punisher, but you know, sometimes it just makes me wonder how He tolerates us at all.

Those boo-ers should be ashamed of themselves!!!

I agree with you completely. We're teaching our children to respect those in a position of authority even when we disagree with them. It starts with us as parents. I still respect (and strive to display that respect) my children when their ideas are different from my own. We teach by example.

Oh that makes me sick to my stomach!
I can not stand when people boo no matter who or what the reason is. It is just plain tacky and disrespectful.
I hate to hear that happened to our president.
What a lesson to have to teach your children - oh my!
Love ya friend,

i have been listening to john piper for the last week on oneplace and this is just what he is preaching about in romans 13.

As verses 1 & 2 states: EVERYONE MUST SUBMIT himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been ESTABLISHED BY GOD. CONSEQUENTLY, HE WHO REBELS AGAINST THE AUTHORITY IS REBELLING AGAINST WHAT GOD HAS INSTITUTED, AND THOSE WHO DO SO WILL BRING JUDGMENT ON THEMSELVES.

So we as a country have much to be concerned about. This is so troubling. I hope your family whooped it up for him.

I watched the tigers opening day today, went into o.t. and we lost to KC 5-3 but we WILL BE WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS this year... sorry. hugs ~janel

Bravo my sweet friend. How horribly sad that adults would show their children such lack of respect. No matter what we feel about our President, he is still our President and should be given the respect that office demands. This is why teaching our children the story of David and Saul from the Bible is so important. David continued to give respect to the authority that the Lord had put over him.

We need to do the very same thing. Thanks for the reminder to pray for our President, he is human too.

Blessings, Joanne

That is really disappointing! I missed it. I totally agree with you. What happened to the ol' "treat others as you would have them treat you"!! That kind of disrespect really burns me up. I too could really get on my soap box about it! It is really scary though how people can be these days.

I have been missing my bloggy friends. I have been so pooped and behind on housework lately. I am trying to spend more time with Landon since I am working more.

I hope you are having a fun week!
Love,
Charity
